about

I'm Kara Jayne, lots of folks call me KJ.

I was born and raised in Kansas City, Missouri, and grew up with friends and family that taught me to find beauty in the world around me, no matter where I was. When I was introduced to painting and fine art, I fell in love with these mediums as ways to capture the beauty I noticed in my surroundings and share it with others.

I like to call my art style “super-real” (I totally made up this term to my knowledge) in that I typically take something real or from my life, like an image or memory, and then I highly saturate it or recolor it to make specific elements of life stand out, like a “super” version of real life. I often choose to highlight and focus on little things or feelings that we typically don’t pause to appreciate, for example the colors of our shadows when we walk, or the magical divine feeling of connecting with a wild animal. I am obsessed with color, and I try to make really bright pieces that serve to add interest to a space instead of becoming a part of the background. If you hang one of my paintings in your home, I want it to start conversations with people that come over.

I am mostly self-taught, and this has allowed me to experiment with different art styles and methods on my own terms. I learn by doing, and my style is constantly evolving. Part of the fun is seeing myself grow as I look back on my body of work. I am also a musician, and many of my paintings are visual representations of my songs.
After getting my first few commissioned pieces, I decided to begin working as a professional artist and sell my art.

Everything on this site is original, hand-made work: each one is a little piece of me. I hope you enjoy them, and see them as reminders to find beauty in your own life each day. It’s all around, and it’s what makes life so special!
